The Foundation’s activities are continuously evaluated and accompanied by scientific research. Stiftung Kinder forschen sees itself as a learning organisation and promotes the exchange of knowledge between research and practice. In addition to carrying out continuous internal monitoring, with a focus on quality assurance and quality development, the Foundation works with renowned external partners who conduct long-term accompanying research aimed at ensuring scientifically sound practices.

Internal Quality Monitoring Reports

Since 2009, the Foundation regularly surveys the key players of the professional development programme (teachers and educators, trainers, and local network partners) to obtain their feedback on the programme offerings. The results of this quality monitoring are published in reports and are presented here.

What is the impact of the continuing professional development programme on the pedagogical staff?

The participants are generally very satisfied with the training courses at the Stiftung Kinder forschen. A longitudinal study has also confirmed the learning success of the educators with regard to several competences. Furthermore, an in-depth study identified the effects of the training on early computer literacy on the pedagogical work. An evaluation of the new training programme on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) points to the important role of the day care centre managers, who carry the training contents to a particular extent into the entire team and thus contribute to the anchoring of educational concepts in the institution.

Results of Scientific Studies

All results of the scientific studies (see: Key Findings as PDF) are published in the series “Wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen zur Arbeit der Stiftung Kinder forschen” [Scientific studies on the work of Stiftung Kinder forschen]. They are available in German only, except for two studies:

  • The ninth volume deals with the goals and requirements of computer science education in the elementary and primary sector. The first expert report specifies the pedagogical and content-related goal dimensions of computer science education at child-care centres and primary schools. In addition to establishing a theoretical basis for various goal dimensions, the authors discuss the success criteria for effective and efficient early computer science education in practice. The second expert report describes a selection of informatics systems for children at child-care centres and primary schools and offers suggestions for suitable systems and their use in elementary and primary education based on professional criteria.

  • The fifth volume in the series of scientific publications focuses on goals of science education at the level of the children and pedagogues, and on quality criteria for science teaching at pre-primary and primary level. The expert reports specify pedagogical content dimensions of the goals of early science education at pre-primary and primary school age.

Position Papers

The Stiftung Kinder forschen intends to actively promote the transformation of the education system in Germany. It is our vision that all children have equal access to a quality education. We therefore support this journey with publications aimed at audiences and actors that are able to make the change.
